Literal Comprehension : "To know a fly" is an essay based on a scientific experiment. it has presented the view that each scientific experiment ought to be carried out consciously and carefully because any experiment dispensed randomly might not give an appropriate and acceptable result like in text. they'd cut Fly body parts like antenna, forelegs, hind legs and perform experiments through trial & result method and that they came up with wrong conclusions like they hear with hind legs, and since after cutting Flea's hand legs it couldn't jump and hence he amputate other parts of Fly.Similarly, following man concluded from his experiment that intoxicating quality lies in legs not in water and even not in other alcoholic substances. He anaesthetize a fly, deposit him in freezing compartment of a refrigerator for several minutes. Then he place him backside down on wax and seal his wings with a hot needle. He lower the fly gently over a saucer of water untill his feet just touch. If he was thirsty he will lower his proboscis as soon as his feet touch and suck. When thirst has been allayed, the proboscis will retracted compactly into head.He fill ten saucers with different level and concentration of water and sugar in each. He lower the fly in every saucer and observe that starving fly is more sensitive with honey and vinegear. Flies accept the materials that taste sweet to them and reject those who taste salt, sour and bitter. They prepare several soucers of sugared water with pinchs of salt added to at least one and increase salt quantity as you continue and once we lower the fly he had stubbonly refused to extend his proboscis due to more amount of salt in this dishes. Finally, the text presents the extraordinary capacity of fly to test and identify the sweetness in substance.
Interpretation :- From this text, we knew that Fly is more sensitive actually starving fly is ten million times more sensitive. we will get accurate information if we will conduct proper scientific experiments done in systematic manner. It also emphasis importance of alerts that one must take care and conscious to hold out the experiment. Otherwise, it harms quite it helps. Likewise we should always must have patience, keen observation & reserach on object for correct finding and better result. Also, the author says that flying is more sensitive than individuals.
Critical Thinking:- The text presents the ides on scientific experiments and its importance. All the experiments are beautifully portrayed within the text. a number of the experiments were hilarious. Personally, i do not see much unacceptable ideas but at some extent there are some unsatisfied statements given below:-
-How is it possible to anesthestize fly and use hot needle for experiments?
-How can we believe that flying is more sensitive than human beings?
-Is every other living creatures have more sensitive power than human beings?
Assimilation:- Before reading this text, i do not have much idea about fly nor scientific experiment. As i read this i came to understand scientific expe9are necessary for accurate result and flies are sensitive than human beings being wonderful creation of world.
